It’s Fall Tournament Time at the Flying L

The pro golf season may be winding down, but the big tournaments at the Flying L are yet to come. The 9th Annual Cowboy Classic will be held September 20-22 with men’s 2-man scramble and ladies individual eclectic formats. Click here for downloadable entry forms.

After a few weeks of recovery Flying L golfers will take to the course for the Club Championship on October 19-20. The final big event of the year will be the Winter Cup team match play event on December 7.

Autumn is typically the best season for golf here in the Texas Hill Country, so mark your calendars for these events.

The regular golf schedule is continuing, despite the summer heat typical of the last days of August. Roy Rodriguez and Juan Guttierez won the August 24th 2-man scramble with a score of 64. Ron Mercier and Charlie Prokop took second after winning a scorecard playoff with Steve Stoops and Lee Axtens. Both teams shot 66. J. T. Hooten and Peter Lovett were third with 67.

Lee Axtens, Larry Henson, Bobby Salyers, and Steve Vickers teamed to win the front 9 in the Wednesday noon game with a score of 8 under par. Walter Stroman, Mike Dexter, Rick Swett, and Tadd Marler won the back at 5 under par. Stroman was the low scorer in the championship flight at 73, and Larry Cramer was low man in the first flight at 78.

The next Men’s Golf Association event will be held on Saturday, September 14 at 10 AM. It will be a 2-man shamble so teams can use it as a warm-up for the Cowboy Classic, coming up the next weekend. Sign up sheets will be in the Flying L pro shop.
